Do certain lights in your home flicker constantly? Do you smell burning or melting plastic when you use certain receptacles? Are there circuit breakers or fuses that trip consistently? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to consider bringing in a certified electrician to complete an inspection.
In a recent article with the National Post, TV’s renovation specialist, Mike Holmes, discussed the importance of using qualified electricians to complete any electrical tasks around your home. Holmes explained that “some of the absolute worst renovations [he’s] come across usually involve some questionable electrical setups. Bad wiring can lead to overloaded circuits, buried junctions, and unsafe connections — all of which put you at risk for a house fire, endangering the safety of you and your home.” The article went on to discuss that whenever you’re purchasing a home that is 15 years or older, “you should get it inspected — especially if the basement was finished by the homeowner and you’re unable to pull permits for it. Without a record of what work has been previously done, you won’t know what’s happening behind the walls without an inspection.”
