Inspections and Correction of Existing Wiring

Do certain lights in your home flicker constantly?

Do you smell burning or melting plastic when you use certain receptacles? Are there circuit breakers or fuses that trip consistently? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to consider bringing in a certified electrician to complete an inspection.

In a recent article with the National Post, TV’s renovation specialist, Mike Holmes, discussed the importance of using qualified electricians to complete any electrical tasks around your home. Holmes explained that “some of the absolute worst renovations [he’s] come across usually involve some questionable electrical setups. Bad wiring can lead to overloaded circuits, buried junctions, and unsafe connections — all of which put you at risk for a house fire, endangering the safety of you and your home.” The article went on to discuss that whenever you’re purchasing a home that is 15 years or older, “you should get it inspected — especially if the basement was finished by the homeowner and you’re unable to pull permits for it. Without a record of what work has been previously done, you won’t know what’s happening behind the walls without an inspection.”

At Mazzei Electric, all of our field staff are certified Red Seal electricians or registered electrical Apprentices, enabling us to provide to our customers extensive experience, timely troubleshooting and analytical skills, along with a vast experience in electrical repair and maintenance fields. If you require an inspection or even just have some questions, please give us a call! We’d be happy to help!

Manufactured Homes – Silver Label Inspections

Are you looking to sell your manufactured (“mobile”) home?

Did you know that the Electrical Safety Regulation (ESR) 21 requires that all new factory-built structures or manufactured homes are to display an approval mark from an accredited certification agency prior to sale?

This is where Mazzei Electric comes in!

When a label is not present due to age or alteration of the building, the regulation allows for used manufactured homes and used factory-built structures to display an approval mark label provided by the appropriate provincial safety manager – a Silver Label. However, prior to that Silver Label being applied, a detailed test and inspection of the electrical systems of the mobile home must be carried out by a certified electrician.

Our service technicians are fully trained and outfitted with the appropriate tools to complete Silver Label inspections efficiently and effectively. This inspection process includes testing the integrity of the home’s internal wiring, ensuring that all wiring systems are built to the standards of the BC Electrical Code, and certifying that proper safeguards are in place with regards to grounding and fault protection.

Prior to listing your mobile home, give our service department a call to be sure you are ready to go!

If you need an inspection for your mobile or manufactured home please contact us.

Electrical Service Upgrade

Have you ever noticed just how many different electrically-powered devices you require in your home these days?

From heat pumps to hot tubs, blow-dryers to flat-irons, more and more we rely on the power of electricity to run our homes. And with many older homes, the incoming electrical service may not be able to keep up!

Do not fear! An electrical service upgrade is often a fairly simple and effective way to allow expansion to your current system. Historically, homes built prior to 1999 were fitted with a 100-amp or less incoming service. Once you start renovating your home or looking to add circuits to manage all your appliances, these services can become overloaded. This is when safety issues of tripping breakers or overheating wires and receptacles can start to occur. Remember that scene from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation when Clark finally gets the “25,000 imported Italian twinkle lights” to turn on? That’s what we’re talking about here!
